I have just recently found out that my
good buddy "Buzz" has died of a heart attack from some
mutual friends. Never made it to "60". A sad day for me.
Buzz Bodin, Richard Soloman, and myself, Erik Provensen,
were inseparable during the 1950s, now Richard and "Buzz"
are both gone. I received this information from Mr. and Mrs.
Soloman who now live in Las Vegas in a retirement community.
Mr. and Mrs. Bodin (now both deceased) were Buzz's parents.
Buzz's full name was David Allen Bodin, and I believed he
died either last year or the year before, but not sure. Buzz
was a Viet Nam vet, and very traumatized by the events in
'Nam. I really haven't been much in touch with him over the
years. I knew he worked in the film industry, but in what
capacity I have forgotten. [webmaster's note: I found a
David Bodin was "rigging best boy grip" for the 1991 film
"The Doors", and "best boy grip" in the 2000 film
"Memento"] I am getting tired of losing friends.those
were great years growing up, and I am saddened that one by

The information I received by our mutual friend's
parents, Mr. & Mrs. Soloman was incorrect; Buzz called
me and said the info was, as Mark Twain once said, "the news
of my demise has been a bit exaggerated".....we had a long
conversation. Buzz is alive and well, father of twin boys,
and an older son, and happily married..........I am
sooooooooohappy that Buzz is still with us.......known him

got back to it to sign on. One of those ads from
Classmates.com reminded me to check it again. It's so
interesting to read bits of peoples' lives. After twenty
years in the furniture business, Dave and I sold out and
slowed down in l993. Now we have a little neighborhood pizza
place two blocks from our home. Dave also loves to sell old
car stuff, etc. on ebay and we love to collect
California plein air art. My brother Dennis (class of
'63) lives a mile from me. Barbara Smith Leyba (class of
'64) and I have combined lists of friends for a charity
Christmas party for the last two years. I correspond with
Janice Buck Fox (class of '64) and Sue (Caroline) Timberlake
Passeneau (class of '64). Otherwise I'm out of touch with
the CV days. Lots of memories are triggered by reading of
classmates and teachers from long ago. I've been blessed
with a wonderful husband, family and friends. My step-kids
are happily marr! ied to people we dearly love, my daughter
attends USF with next semester at American University in
Washington, DC, and my son just graduated from high school.
Enduring the loss of several loved ones this last year has
reminded me to treasure our shared time. A short summary of
our life status doesn't reflect many of the struggles, but

Reunion: After graduation I served four years in the Air
Force during the Vietnam conflict, stationed in Texas, Ohio,
and Taiwan. Although my duty assignment was a military
accounting specialist, I spent most of my time playing
fastpitch softball for my squadron and the Base Teams. After
my military committment I returned to school and earned a
degree in optics, spending the next twenty years in the
optical industry, mainly as a licensed optician in
California. I have always had an interest in wood working
and doing home projects so while working as an assistant
store manager for Pearle Vision, I answered an ad as a
delivery driver for an electrical contractor. I was hired,
and over the next few years went from driver,
laborer/apprentice, purchasing agent, and project manager
for multi-million dollar construction projects. This
experience led me to establish Cole Enterprises about five
years ago, providing contractor related products and
services for accounting, estimating, project management, and
job costing.
Other than adding a few pounds and losing hair (ear hair
excluded), life is good.
I spend as much time as I can with my two four-legged
children Flash and Bo (Brittany Spaniels) pheasant, chukker,
or quail hunting.
Comments: I would like to thank all of the members of the
reunion committee for all of their dedication and hard work
for the many years they have given of themselves. I would
also like to take time to remember all of those classmates
who gave their lives serving in the armed forces and to also
thank those that sacrificed greatly protesting the
war.

sabbatical, I had been teaching for 11 years at the

and this year and now, 5 years later is restarting it. My
daughter, Michele just got married at my mother's family
beach house in Laie Hawaii and our son, Kai is now a senior

Steve Golsh

After high school, Steve attended Oregon
State University, and graduated with a B.S. degree in
Entomology.
Steve served with the 101st Airborne in
Vietnam. Known in Vietnam as "Bug Man" by fellow soldiers
and Vietnamese children, he collected specimens of insects
and butterflies, and kept a day-to-day journal of his
experiences there.
Steve was killed March 21, 1970, in the A
Shau Valley, Vietnam, 11 days before his scheduled return to
the states. He was the sole casualty of a night ambush, and
was awarded the bronze star for courageously giving warning
to his fellow soldiers.

Comments: My primary objective in signing in here was trying
to locate Julie Acheson. That was four years ago and she
hasn't signed up yet unfortunately. I haven't seen her since
the late '60s and would love to say hello. I've searched all
the maiden name directories I can locate and have come up

appreciated. As for me, I've lived on an island in the
Florida Keys for years, which isn't bad in and of itself.
For the most part I've been extraordinarily lucky and very
happy. I've been married forever to the same person. I have
three fabulous, brilliant, witty, articulate children - and
one grandchild who can be described in exactly the same way.
I have no complaints. It was definitely a walk down memory
lane looking through the pictures and names, all so familiar
seeming, but of another time of my life. I was taken aback
by the number of deaths when looking through the class,
especially the women. How did that happen? It feels to me as
if we're still so very young. I guess it's about that inside
joke (on us) about your mind never aging that we finally
understand after it's too late to tell all those 'old'

school), and I joined CVHS as an 11th grade Junior. The
change was a big adjustment and the work challenge in 11th
grade was at an all-time high and mental immersion for me.
My history instructor, Fred Mabbutt, stands out as the most
memorable and outstanding instructor (including years at
graduate school) I ever had. History had always been my
worst subject, and getting an A in his class was every bit
as rewarding to me as getting a PhD. Bill Thomas also stands
out in my mind. Wouldn't it be great to arrange getting
together for a visit with him? I had previously been
enrolled in Doris Ferguson's class, did especially well on
one of her assignments, and was transferred to Bill's class.
What especially stands out in my mind was his beating his
fist on the lectern when passionately making a point.
Another event concerning him was his driving me home on one
occasion and giving me a paperback of Honor_ de Balzac.
Cecil Gutierrez, my physics instructor, introduced me to
computers when he drove me on one occasion to L.A. State
(now Cal State University, L.A.) to attend one of his night
classes, and to show me the computer lab. That evening it
became completely clear that I had come face to face with my
destiny. The computer field has been a joy ride for me ever
since. To make matters even more incredible, Cecil lived
across the street from Cal State and let me park in his
driveway the full four years I went there, completing my
B.S. in Mathematics in 1968. Girls were distant from my
thoughts until graduate school at Harvard University where I
completed my M.S. in Applied Mathematics in 1969. While back
home in California for the summer I became smitten with a
Big Boy's hamburger waitress, learned she had moved to Salt
Lake City Utah, and decided to switch to University of Utah
so I could continue seeing her. Ain't love grand! The
romance was short-lived, but I got a PhD in Computer Science
out of the deal in 1971, by programming a computer to play
an electronic organ. Back home, I talked All Saint's
Episcopal Church in Pasadena into letting me hook up a
computer to their 90-rank Schlicker Pipe organ, put on two
public concerts, got some TV coverage, and produced two
record albums .. not very profitable financially, but a
great deal of fun. I'm now in my third marriage with Marcia,
and we're celebrating our 9th anniversary this month. In the
nutshell, my first wife, Pommie, of four years left me for
another man, and my second wife, Debby, of eight years left
me for another woman! I learned she had been abused by her
father as a child and was diagnosed with MPD (Multiple
Personality Disorder) with (count 'em) 50 distinct
personalities. This arguably makes Marcia my 52nd wife.
Marcia should receive an honorary doctorate in "Kindology."
I've always loved the bumper sticker "Practice Random Acts
of Kindness and Senseless Acts of Beauty." And, after seeing
it on a random car I went in search for one of my own.
Visiting Marcia at her work for lunch, and taking her back
to her office afterward, that saying was scrolling across
her computer screen as her screen saver. I knew it was a
sign ... a scrolling sign to boot ... and my destiny again
became completely clear. The moment I got back to my office,
I called her (4:10 pm, December 7, 1993) and proposed to her
on the spot, and I've been an extraordinarily happy man ever
since. To give an illustration of what Marcia is like, her
former husband, John, of about 30 years had fallen in love
with another woman. Wanting John to be happy, Marcia wrote
up an amicable divorce settlement. A total of $200 was spent
having an attorney review the settlement. Marcia and I are
good friends with John and his new wife, Karen, and we get
together with them regularly. When introducing John to
others, I refer to him as my ex-husband-in-law. I have a
daughter, Brianna (now 24) with Pommie, an adopted son,
Skylar (now 19) with Debby, and step-daughter, Colleen (37)
(expecting a child January), and step-son, Jim (34) with
Marcia. Marcia and I have also "adopted" a single mom,
Christine (38) and her son, Shawn (9). Marcia's sister,
Renee, a good Mormon, has 4 children and numerous
grandchildren, ... so we're a pretty good sized extended
family. Old CVHS school mates and teachers that come to mind
for me include Ray Hack (Chemistry instructor), Penelope
Greenman (English), William Inhelder (Calculus), Bob
Medders, Art Zygielbaum, Dave Shride (born on the same day
as me, tragically killed in a car accident at age 24), Steve
Caren, Jim Nestel, Carolyn Caldwell, Bob Shigley, Kurt Bareg
(some of these spellings may be wrong), Kriste Mencher (her
married name ... a couple of doors down from us in the
neighborhood), Larry Hobbs, and Rhio Ossola. [October

lunch with Carolyn Troester, Chris deRenne, Debi French,

up in greater depth. Of course life has changed since 9/11
and it has been nice to be in touch with old friends through
e-mail. I will continue doing presentations on learning
disabilities and Bob, my husband, is working very hard
heading up a company that works with cities to service loans
for affordable housing, AmeriNational Community Services,
Inc. Hope what we do helps a little. I close hoping you were
not personally touch by the tragic events (We lost one
